Permit & Residency
Options

Premium
Visa
Ideal for: Remote employees, freelancers and location-independent professionals.
The Mauritius Premium Visa is a special long-stay permit that allows remote workers and other non-citizens to live on the island legally while continuing to work or draw income from abroad. Valid for up to one year (renewable), the visa offers flexibility for professionals seeking a safe, tax-friendly environment with high-quality healthcare, beaches, and a stable lifestyle. Applicants must demonstrate proof of income or savings, a clean criminal record, and valid travel insurance.
- Stay up to 12 months
- No local employment required
- Family members eligible
- Can be changed to a long-term Resident Permit whilst in Mauritius
- Ideal first step to test drive Mauritius before long-term residency

Occupation Permit
Professional
Ideal for: Foreign nationals employed by Mauritian companies.
The Professional Occupation Permit (POP) for Mauritius is a combined work-and-residence permit that allows qualified foreign professionals to live and work on the island legally — typically granted to employees, managers and company directors. Applicants must provide a valid employment contract, evidence of professional qualifications or experience, a clean criminal record, and medical/travel insurance; successful holders may also bring dependents. The POP streamlines immigration and employment approvals for people seeking long-term professional engagement in Mauritius.
- Valid up to 10 years
- Dependents included
- Pathway toward permanent residency

Occupation Permit
Investor
Ideal for: Entrepreneurs and business owners establishing or relocating businesses.
Foreign nationals can secure residency by investing USD 50,000 in a business, either by creating a new company or by investing in an existing enterprise. Such an investment qualifies the investor for a 10-year Investor Permit, and after meeting further requirements they may apply for long-term residence.
To be eligible for a 20-year Permanent Residence Permit, an investor must have held the Investor Permit for at least five continuous years immediately before applying, and must demonstrate either a minimum annual gross income of MUR 15 million or a cumulative turnover of MUR 75 million over any consecutive five-year period during the current permit.
- Residency linked to business ownership
- International business hub access
- Renewable long-term residence

Self-Employed
Permit
Ideal for: Independent consultants and solo professionals.
The Self-Employed Permit for Mauritius allows foreign nationals to live on the island while running their own business or offering professional services independently. Applicants must submit a viable business plan or proof of established activity, evidence of relevant qualifications or experience, financial means or investment capital, a clean criminal record, and medical/travel insurance; successful applicants may also be eligible to bring dependents. This permit supports entrepreneurs and freelancers seeking a long-term presence in Mauritius.
- Work independently
- Establish professional presence
- Access Mauritian tax residency

Retirement
Permit
Ideal for: Individuals aged 50+ seeking lifestyle relocation.
Applicants for a Mauritius retirement visa must be at least 50 years old and demonstrate either a monthly income of USD 2,000 or savings of USD 24,000, covering the primary applicant and dependents. The permit is issued for 10 years and is renewable; after five years, holders may be eligible to apply for a 20-year permit. With no minimum residency requirement, this option suits those seeking flexible second residency without committing to permanent relocation.
- No employment requirement
- Renewable long-term residency
- Family-friendly living environment

Permanent
Residency
Ideal for: Foreign nationals purchasing qualifying property within approved schemes.
Foreign investors can obtain residency by purchasing property worth at least USD 375,000 in an approved scheme. Property buyers qualify for a residence permit and may eventually secure permanent residency, allowing them to reside in Mauritius for as long as they retain ownership. Residence via property investment can also allow holders to work in Mauritius without needing a separate occupation permit, making it attractive for individuals and families wishing to live and work on the island.
Co-ownership is allowed, provided each investor contributes a minimum of USD 375,000, which can benefit couples or business partners. Investors who meet the minimum investment threshold are eligible to pursue permanent residency.
- Permanent residence security
- Premium residential estates
- Lifestyle and investment solution
